Redact PDF: what it is for
Before sharing a contract, an invoice or a case file you often need to hide personal data: ID or social security numbers, phone numbers, bank accounts or addresses. Many tools only draw a rectangle on top, and the text is still there for anyone who knows how to copy it.

Frequently asked questions
Is it safe? Can what I covered be recovered?
It cannot be recovered. Unlike drawing a black rectangle on top, here the redacted pages are flattened to an image that includes the box, so the original text is no longer in the file.
What happens to the pages I don't redact?
They are copied unchanged, with their selectable text.
Does the automatic search find everything?
It is an aid: always review the document page by page, especially scanned PDFs, where there is no text to search and you have to draw the boxes by hand.
Can I use white instead of black?
Yes, choose the box colour before marking.
